The environment speaks for itself.
Best photo here: a wide classroom or hallway shot showing the space. Natural light preferred. No posed shots โ€” capture it as it actually is.

You did not burn out because
you stopped caring.

You burned out because you cared too much and had too little support. The system was not built for the kids who needed it most โ€” or for the people who show up for them.

Classrooms too big to give anyone real attention
You came to connect. Instead you managed crowds and hoped no one fell too far behind.
No framework for the hard moments
When a child was dysregulated, you were on your own. No protocol, no support, just you trying to hold it together.
Lesson plans built for average learners
You knew the curriculum was not working for some kids. But there was no time and no room to do it differently.
No one investing in your growth
Professional development that felt like a checkbox. No real coaching. No mentor who actually knew your name.

Illuminate Academy
was built differently.

Monday through Thursday, 8am to 3pm. 5.5 weeks of paid vacation. Every year. We did not inherit a broken system and try to patch it. We built something new โ€” a neuroaffirming learning environment where every decision, every classroom, and every hire is made around one belief: that every learner arrives whole. Your job is not to fix them. It is to create the conditions where they can grow.

Small ratios. Real relationships.
1:3 to 1:5. You will actually know your learners โ€” their stories, their triggers, their wins. That is not an accident. It is the design.
A framework for every moment.
The House of Growth gives your whole team a shared language. You will never be guessing what to do when things get hard. You will have a protocol and a team behind you.
Content and curriculum provided.
Lesson plans, materials, and content are built and delivered to you weekly. Your energy goes to your learners โ€” not to starting from scratch every Sunday night.
Real coaching. Not a review.
You will be coached by clinical experts and interventionist specialists who work alongside you in the building. This is mentorship that happens in the room, in real time.
A schedule that gives you your life back.
Monday through Thursday, done by 3pm. 5.5 weeks of paid vacation built into the school calendar. Your summers are yours.
A culture that actually celebrates you.
We literally have a thread called Magical Moments. We do not wait for the end-of-year review to tell you you are doing great. We do it on a Wednesday. In the hallway. In a text at 3:04pm.

Imagine your school day
looking like this.

Mon to Thu ยท 8am to 3pm ยท 5.5 Weeks Paid Vacation ยท Every Year
"You walk in Monday morning and your learners are genuinely glad to see you. You know their names, their stories, and exactly where they are. The lesson plan is already built. Your Team Lead is right there with you. When a hard moment comes up, you know exactly what to do โ€” and you are not doing it alone."
You arrive to a team that greets you by name and already knows what you need to know for the day
Your classroom is small enough that you can actually see every learner โ€” and they can see you
A hard moment happens and you move through it with confidence because you have been trained for exactly this
At 3pm you leave โ€” not depleted, not carrying the weight of an impossible day, but actually proud of what happened
At the end of the year a family tells you their child did something they never thought possible โ€” and you know you were part of that

You will not just work here.
You will grow here.

The best people in special education are not looking for a job. They are looking for a place that matches their conviction. Here is what that looks like at IA.

You Will Be Coached
Not evaluated. Not managed. Coached. Our leadership team works with you consistently โ€” real feedback, real growth, real investment in who you are becoming.
You Will Be Trained
You will learn the House of Growth, SCERTS principles, and polyvagal theory โ€” a framework that will change how you see every learner for the rest of your career.
You Will Be Mentored
Clinical experts and interventionist specialists work alongside you daily. Your Team Lead is invested in your growth โ€” not just your performance.
Your Schedule Was Designed on Purpose
Mon to Thu, 8am to 3pm. Monthly PD Fridays. Quarterly learner development meetings. 5.5 weeks of paid vacation. Built to keep you.
You Will Do Meaningful Work
You will watch children grow in ways their families did not know were possible. Connection formed. Regulation built. Hard moments navigated with dignity.
You Will Have Room to Rise
Support Instructors grow into Primary Instructors. Primary Instructors grow into Team Leads. We see you and we build a path for the people who are committed.
You Will Be Celebrated. Constantly.
We have a Magical Moments thread. We celebrate on a Wednesday, in the hallway, in a text at 3:04pm. You will not wonder if your work is noticed. You will know.
You Will Belong to Something
IA has a culture, a mission, and a heartbeat. When you join this team you join a room that has changed people โ€” including the people who work in it.
Our Mission

From the Team

The people who work here
say it best.

"

I came from a public school where I had 28 kids and zero support. Here I have five learners and a whole team behind me. I did not know teaching could feel like this.

Instructor, Illuminate Academy
Nashville, TN ยท 2024โ€“2025
"

The House of Growth framework changed everything for me. I finally had a shared language with my whole team. When a hard moment happened, I was not guessing โ€” I knew exactly what to do.

Support Instructor, Illuminate Academy
Nashville, TN ยท 2024โ€“2025
"

I was burned out and honestly ready to leave education entirely. A friend sent me the IA posting. I booked the call on a whim. That was the best 15 minutes I have spent in years.

Primary Instructor, Illuminate Academy

A candid moment works better than a posed shot. This is the face of the mission โ€” let it show up naturally.

This is not for you
if...

We would rather you know now than find out later. Here is what to consider before you apply.

Not a fit if
You get knocked down and struggle to get back up. Grit is not optional here โ€” it is the job. Hard moments happen. You need to reset, re-regulate, and show up again the next morning ready to go.
Not a fit if
You need a quiet environment to function. Our classrooms are alive โ€” movement, music, voices, energy. We love that about this place. But it is something to know about yourself before you walk in.
Not a fit if
You are looking for a heads-down solo role. This is a team environment. You will be coached, given feedback, and expected to grow. If that feels threatening rather than exciting, this is not the right room.
Worth knowing
Our staff support neurodivergent learners, which means some learners may use unkind language or physical behaviors during hard moments. We always prioritize your safety and have a clear framework for every hard moment.

Why I built this.
Why it still matters.

I started Illuminate because I saw a need in the community. I loved the idea that we could meet kids right where they are and really help them grow. Thirteen years ago, when I was dreaming up this idea with my six-month-old on my hip, trying to smash my keyboard while I typed โ€” I had no idea what Illuminate would become today. And I could not be more proud.

What we get to do here is take all the science, all the research, all the best practice you learn in school โ€” and actually apply it. We bring together the best of special education, neuroscience, occupational and speech therapy, and behavior science, and we run it through a neuroaffirming, dignified, relationally rich lens. It is my life's work. I want to hire the best people and build the best community โ€” because we truly are better together.

What life at IA
actually looks like.

When You Start
Onboarding, Training, and Getting to Know You
You learn the House of Growth framework and the IA Way. You will also be asked about your favorite coffee order, your go-to lunch, and your preferred pizza slice โ€” because you matter to us and we want to know you, not just your resume.
Every Day
Daily Team Concept Meetings
Your team meets daily to align on the learners in your care. You will never feel like you are guessing or going it alone. The team is the plan.
Every Month
Professional Development Fridays
One Friday every month set aside for learning, growing, and team culture. No classrooms, no instruction โ€” just investment in you.
One more thing. We celebrate. A lot.
Like, probably more than you are used to. We literally have a thread called Magical Moments where the whole team celebrates all the things. We do not wait for an end-of-year review. We do it on a Wednesday. In the hallway. In a text at 3:04pm. It is going to feel weird at first. Then you are going to love it.

One mission.
