Who is teaching

I built a place for the kids everyone else had run out of ideas for. This hour is what we use there.

This is the lens my team uses every day with kids at our school in Nashville. Now I am teaching it live online, so you can use it at home, whether or not your child ever walks into our building.

I am Jacquelene Nigrelli, founder of Illuminate Academy in Nashville, with an MA in Special Education. I am also a mom of five, so none of the hard moments I talk about are hypothetical.

Three shifts in the way you see.

Behavior is a receipt. You stop chasing what already happened and start reading what it is telling you.
This is physics, not willpower. You can know exactly what to do and still not do it at seven in the morning. This is the one that lets you set the guilt down.

Questions

The things people ask me first.

Do I need to have tried everything first?

No. If you have read the books, you are not starting from zero, and this helps you use what you know in the moment it is hard. If you have read nothing, you are welcome too.

What if my child's situation is different?

Probably it is, and that is why this is a way of looking and not a script. It works from what your child's day is telling you.

Can one hour really help?

An hour will not build a plan around your child, and I will not pretend it can. It can change the question you ask in the next hard moment, and that is a real place to start.

Does my child need a diagnosis?

Not at all. This hour is for any parent whose child keeps having hard days, with a diagnosis, without one, or somewhere in the long waiting-list middle. It is not a diagnosis or an evaluation, so I will not pretend it can do that part.

Do I have to talk or turn my camera on?

No. Camera is optional, so come as you are. If you have a question, type it or say it out loud, whichever is easier. If you would rather just listen, that is allowed too.

What if I cannot make it live?

There is a replay, so the hour is yours either way. Live is the best way to get your own question answered.

What happens at the end of the hour?

I will tell you where parents keep going with this together, if you want ongoing support. You are welcome to take the hour and leave it there.
